A Pool of Creation is basically a bowl of mildly salted water wherein a witch may weave a spell. Some may prefer to use a small cauldron for this, but my favorite containers are Japanese tea bowls or chawan. Different designs and styles have different meanings in Shinto and Japanese Buddhism, and their symbolic vocabulary is large enough to find many things useful for witchcraft.
This is one of the cases where saltwater represents amniotic fluid. It is very useful in workings that have to do with development, transformation, easing change, and resetting one’s vibration to prevent personal effects being used against you. In the latter case, when changing of the blood or changing of the seed is too traumatic, a splash of this will do the job well enough. You can use this as a quick splash when you trust those you visited, but just want to prevent any accidental inappropriate energy wriggling its way back to you.
You will need:
- a sturdy bowl that will contain about 250ml of liquid well
- 1/2 teaspoon honey or molasses
- 250ml (1/4 liter) of water or coconut water
- 5g of sea salt
- 3 drops of blood (menstrual blood is best)
- a teaspoon of ground coconut (not necessary if you used coconut water)
To activate it, you will need to give the same volume of a sweet liquid to Eshu, Hecate or your tradition’s Gate Keeper. Then light some pleasing incense.
Starting with the bowl, pass the items through the smoke, and add them to the bowl.
Mix the ingredients mindfully with your giving/sending hand, then pass the completed bowl of liquid through the smoke again. Then it is ready to use for whichever purpose you need.
How to Use a Pool of Creation
As mentioned before, there are many ways to use this tool. Here are some examples to get you started.
For a mild cleansing/clearing with a resetting element, pour the contents over your head and rub it over yourself using downward strokes. This can be done in the shower, but if you can, outdoors on the Earth is best. Some like to let it evaporate awhile in the sunlight or moonlight.
If you are doing a transformation or easing change work, this can be used to soak the cloth for the bag, or the talisman.
If you have adopted children or are becoming someone’s godparent, you may “baptize” your new babies with this.
If petitioning your Ancestors or fertility deities for a pregnancy for yourself or a loved one, use 5 teaspoons of honey and about 3 shots of good liquor to the recipe, and give this as an offering.
Try it, and over time you will find many more uses for it. If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to comment.
