Most manuals on crystal therapy and magick avoid the mention of their use in hexing, cursing, and other aggressive workings. I understand that they do this to keep things positive or because they fear misuse of crystals. However, this approach of avoidance and omission is more dangerous than honesty because it leads to possible misuse of crystals due to ignorance. Inexperienced witches without the guidance of knowing elders may also be unaware of when they are vulnerable.
There is a reason you are instructed to clean your crystals when you receive them, and it’s not just hygiene. Crystals that have been used for different purposes may require different kinds of cleansing. Also, and traditions vary in this, generally anything that has housed a spirit or energy who has or was given a persona must be buried, crushed and mixed with the soil outside, thrown into the sea, or otherwise permanently dispatched once its time has come. They cannot be passed to another without also passing the spirit they embody, much like a manmade fetish.
Some crystals are also toxic. Some are radioactive, and some are soluble in water or acid. Any and everything has been made into a wand or a egg shape, but this doesn’t mean they are safe for use in massage, elixirs, or anything other than their mystical purpose. To fully understand how any crystal can be used in aggressive magic or cursing, one has to think like a villain, not a decent person.
Crystals were formed long, long before humanity was a twinkle in the Orun’s eye. They were made at a time wherein, at least in our corner of the Milky Way, the default state of most things was what we would describe as biologically non living, but as we know, the Universe and all within it is animate in its way. Stars especially have something that could be described as a metabolism. One could view crystals from the ground something like the various molecules of minerals in our bodies. They do what they do, and what we like or don’t like or find convenient or inconvenient is not a factor.
Placing them in someone’s proximity has whatever effect it has. Adding our intent to them apparently helps them to do their function in a way that is helpful if our intent is helpful. Some people don’t want your help though.
Where many things can be wonderful and healing for a benevolent individual, some nudges or pressure to improve one’s self can be hell for a person who is malevolent and wants to stay that way. If someone doesn’t want to improve themselves, doesn’t want to face what they are doing wrong, and wants to distance themselves from the consequences of their wrongdoings, a blessing for you is a curse for them.
Now to the crystals and their possible uses in aggressive magick. This is a work in progress, and by no means a complete listing.
Inscribing a curse in carnelian agate a certain way sets it in stone. It is most often used this way to curse someone who robs a grave or otherwise invades a space a witch does not wish disturbed. It can also be used to create a plague of rats in a certain area. This is sometimes done under the cover of protecting a place from serpents.
A Stone You Will Never Get Your Hands On apparently it’s also thought to attract death by some.
The Cursed Amethyst on Atlas Obscura
Sometimes used as a “weapon” by mischievous spirits. By abiku (“lost” spirits of children) in particular, sometimes used as weapons against themselves so that they may die young again. These should be kept away from infants, young sickly children, and pregnant women who have lost children in the past.
If someone has offended the Ancestors in some way, or killed someone dear to you, this stone can be charged to cause the dead to torment them until they die or at least go nuts. It is well known to help with connection to one’s ancestors, and since we all have shared ones, it’s obvious that if someone is running around being a jerk, they are going to have issues around this stone. If someone you know is working with this stone and having nightmares of people asking for some unknown thing repeatedly, they may need to do some accounting and healing for things their parents or grandparents have done that they don’t consciously know about, but physically benefit from. It could even be their departed trying to confess to them or correct mistakes. By the way, this is not always a positive thing. Some of us have ancestors who need to talk to some of their other descendants about righting certain wrongs because it’s not our call.
